FAQ

  • Why should I choose an orthodontist?

Orthodontists are dental specialists who diagnose, prevent and treat dental and facial irregularities. An orthodontist receives two to three years of additional training after dental school to learn the proper ways to align teeth and correct the bite. The teeth and facial structures are permanently changed by orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic specialists have extensive and specialized training that enables them to provide their patients with professional and personalized treatment. Only those with this formal education may call themselves “orthodontists,” and only orthodontists may be members of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).

  • What is a malocclusion, and why should it be treated?

A malocclusion or "bad bite" is the term for teeth that do not fit together and function correctly. Many times, malocclusions are inherited. In some instances, they result from habits or functional problems like a tongue thrust. Cavities and early extractions of baby teeth can also lead to malocclusion problems. According to studies by the American Association of Orthodontists, untreated malocclusions can result in a variety of problems. Crowded teeth are more difficult to properly brush and floss, which may contribute to tooth decay and gum disease. Protruding teeth are more susceptible to accidental chipping. Crossbites can result in uneven growth and abnormal tooth wear. By correcting malocclusions, the teeth not only look better, but also function better.

  • By what age should my child be seen by an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists (www.braces.org) recommends that your child be evaluated by age 7. An early examination allows the orthodontist to determine how and when a child's particular problem should be treated for maximum improvement and the best result.

  • What should I expect on my first visit?

We always look forward to meeting new patients! Your initial examination is a very important appointment as we have a lot to talk about. In addition to understanding why you are seeking orthodontic treatment, we may also discuss treatment options, timing of the treatment, any teeth that may need to be removed, and fees. If possible, please bring a recent panoramic x-ray from your dentist as well as your orthodontic insurance cards. To save you valuable time, we may also set aside time to complete diagnostic records (x-rays, photos, and impressions) following the initial examination.

  • How much does treatment cost?

Since every patient has a different clinical presentation and different diagnosis, we recommend that you to come to our office for a complimentary consultation where we will also work to find a financial solution that works best for you and your budget. We strive to ensure that orthodontic care is affordable for everyone, so no one feels a financial burden to better their smile and facial profile.

  • Will I need to have teeth removed?

We will carefully examine all of the patient records and medical history to develop a treatment plan for each patient and their unique dental and skeletal situation. In a small percentage of patients, we may recommend extraction of a tooth or several teeth to allow for the best treatment result. Removal of teeth provides some additional space to correct tooth alignment while maximizing the long-term stability and protecting the overall health of the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, minimizing recession, and allowing for an ideal facial and dental esthetic result.

  • Do you offer payment plans?

Yes we do! Schedule a consultation appointment for more information.
